When Nancy looked at Richard, she felt nothing but pure hatred and, when she thought about their first night together, she felt nothing but unadulterated shame. He had crossed every boundary she had and, even though it had been raped, she held herself responsible. She had been up to no good at the time and, if she hadn’t been, none of it would have happened.
The sound of fighting below them increased. On any other day, Elizabeth would have shut it down. It was the first day of the lunar month though and she was out praying to Buddha.
“That noise is driving me crazy,” Richard sighed. “I am going to go downstairs and see what’s up.”
Richard got out of bed, got dressed, kissed her, and went for the door. Once he was gone, Nancy closed her eyes. With ……
