After lunch, William, Lucy, and Steven returned to work leaving Elizabeth alone with Donald and Jenny. Still bearing the mark of her insolence, Elizabeth had no desire to remain and be social, so she went upstairs to take a nap. As she passed the spare bedroom though, she was surprised to hear Nancy’s voice. She hadn’t even known that Nancy was home. “What’s up?” Nancy called to her.
“I should ask you the same thing,” Elizabeth replied. “Shouldn’t you still be in the hospital?”
Nancy looked at Elizabeth seriously for a second, and then she burst out in giggles. “I didn’t want to be in the hospital,” she laughed, “so I signed myself out on my own volition, against the advice of doctors.”
