Lucy shut the door behind her as she followed William into his office. She said, “I did not do those things without a reason, nor did I allow you to do those things to me for no reason. You cannot ignore me."
William took a seat at his desk and began to go over some papers. He didn’t look at Lucy or reply to her words. It was as if she wasn’t even there.
In a huff, Lucy took the book she’d been reading from one of the book shelves (Lord of the Flies, by William Golding), and lay on the sofa to read. From time to time, Lucy looked up at William. To her, his job looked terribly boring. Being around him at work, she realized, made her sleepy.
She flipped a page, yawned, and put the bookmark in to hold her spot. After the night she’d had, she couldn’t focus. She was thinking about the boys in……
