“What game are you playing?” Gideon demanded. His voice sharp enough to cut. “If you want us dead, stop hiding behind theatrics.”
The figure tilted his head again—opposite side now. Like a pendulum. “If I wanted you dead, Gideon, you’d already be cold on the floor.”
My gut twisted. Not from the threat—but the ease. He knew Gideon’s name.
“You know us,” I said. Not loud. Just enough.
Torchlight ran across the mask, catching on the carved edges. “I know enough.”.....
