“Show your face!” Wren snarled, pivoting with the grace of someone who had fought for her life more than once.
The figure tilted their head again, as though amused. “Faces are distractions. You, of all people, should know that.”
The words dug under my skin. They weren’t meant for Wren. They were meant for me.
“Coward,” Wren spat, circling. “Only the guilty hide.”
“Or the wise,” the figure answered softly......
