“You’re still thinking about last night,” she mumbled into the cushion.
I set the brush down a little harder than necessary. “You always make it sound like I’m brooding.”
“You are brooding,” she shot back without lifting her head. “That face? The one where your eyes look like knives but your mouth looks like it just ate vinegar? That’s your brooding face.”
I half-smiled, despite myself. “And what if it is?”
Now she rolled over, eyes suddenly sharp. “Do you think it was him? The one pulling all these strings?”.....
