“This council is right about one thing,” he said, voice rough but steady. “There is a conspiracy at work.”
The chamber stirred. Arabella’s lips curved in the faintest smile of victory.
“But you’re wrong about who pulls the strings.”
He snatched the damning letter from the table and tore it in two with a deliberate, ringing rip that reverberated through the chamber. Gasps cut the air.
“You want me to denounce her? To say she’s betrayed us? No.” His gaze cut across the room like a drawn blade. “If Vivian falls, so does this council. So does this realm. You can’t see who stands to gain from all this trickery, then you are already their pawns.”.....
