He turned, looking for my face. I expected skepticism, maybe pity. Instead, there was just a hint of a smile. “Then let’s give them something to remember us by.”
The door behind us groaned as fists banged on it. Splinters jumped. The bolt shuddered.
I pulled out my dagger, breath sharp, the ember in my chest flaring to flame. “When they break through, we don’t run.”
His blade hissed free once again. “We make them regret finding us.”.....
