I turned, catching Gideon’s steady eyes. “Then,” I said quietly, “we find out which of them wants me silenced most of all.”
When the last of the council’s murmurs had ebbed away down the corridors, silence collected in the chamber like a shadow too heavy for the sun to burn away.
