Shadows at the Banquet

I keep close, but not too close. One sudden turn and I’m gone, just a whisper in the dark.
They stop in this cramped little antechamber, barely lit by a candle that looks ready to give up. I peek through a c***k—tall guy tapping his fingers, stocky guy leaning in.
“She’s not as stupid as you think,” the tall one mutters. “Something’s different.”
The other just grunts, “Different or not, orders are orders. Tonight. Before she leaves.”.....
