Gideon shifted his torch from one hand to the other, the firelight flickering over his worn face. “You’re both right,” he said carefully. “Which means we’re standing on the knife’s edge. The question isn’t whether it’s a trap. It’s whether the trap is already sprung.”
Wren gave a sharp laugh, more anger than humor. “Spoken like a man who knows he’ll never get all the answers in time.”.....
