The figure c****d their head, a mockery of interest. “I think you underestimate how brittle loyalty is when it’s put to the test. Even steel bends, if you put enough fire to it.”
Her jaw tightened, but she willed her voice to remain steady. “If you want me to be broken, you’ll have to do more than this.”
The figure chuckled, soft, chilling. “Oh, my dear, I don’t want you broken. I want you sharpened.”.....
