Eleanor waited for a reply. Michael got the sense that things would get terrible between them if he tried to get out of it with even a partial lie.
“Yes,” Michael just confessed.
He was worried there would be consequences, but all his attempts to keep it hidden from friends and family had now failed. Eleanor could already guess what was happening, so if he didn’t explain, it would only be worse. “Yes. She hasn’t left me alone a single day so far. She’s always in my head saying things to almost everything that happens. She reads other people’s minds and tells me what they’re thinking. Whether they like or dislike me. Like, she keeps saying John hates me. She told me Lily liked me, and that turned out true, so it messes with me a lot.”
Eleanor stood up out of bed, initially silent. Michael felt……
