Michael had never been in such a quiet assembly.
“You all know why you’re here,” the dean’s voice urged. “I can tell by the silence.”
A few students giggled, however briefly.
“I am here to give you all the information we have regarding empowered competitions.” As usual, the term disaparalia wasn’t used. “I hope those of you not currently maintaining a C average or higher will be motivated to do so since you will not be allowed to participate otherwise.”
Loudly whispered profanity erupted from two rows behind Michael, to the silent snickering of others nearby.
Hargrave continued. “You will also require permission slips signed by your legal guardians, your private tutors, and your assigned psychologists.”
Geez, Michael thought. “Geez,” Eleanor said.
