“You look as if you've seen a ghost," Paige said when she entered the apartment not long after Penn left.
Brooke was still standing in the kitchen.
“And why was the door unlocked?"
Paige put her purse down on the counter and then turned to lock the doors.
“Penn just left. We had dinner together."
As if that explained everything. Paige sent her a quizzical look. “Oh?"
Brooke frowned. “It was impromptu. I had food since I didn't know you were going out. I saw Penn at the mailbox so I invited him."
Paige smiled. “And he clearly responded."
“Yes. He's a mystery."
Paige laughed and tucked her keys into her purse. “That's a problem?"
“I don't want any complications in my life," Brooke said. “I've settled into a good routine."
