Penn knew he shouldn't go off half-c****d, but he was anyway. He dialed the guard's number as he climbed into his car.
“Mr. Wharton, I'm sorry."
“Have you found Miss Madison? Where is Brooke?"
Penn's heart beat rapidly in his chest. He'd been calmer breaching a suspect's front door. Where could she have gone to give his guy the slip? Buck had come highly recommended.
“I can't find her. She's not at home. That's the first place I looked."
Penn pinched the bridge of his nose. He should be reviewing the financials for his hotels. He should be planning his visits. Instead, he was in his car, in the parking lot, wanting to reach through the phone and strangle the man who should have kept an eye on a librarian. Brooke wasn't some international spy. She checked books out and answered questions.
