Brooke treated herself to an Uber to get to her date. The buses didn't run near the restaurant she'd chosen. She made a mental note to choose one more convenient next time. That was assuming she'd have a second date with this guy.
Steven had made it to the restaurant before her and he rose as the hostess led her to the table.
At first sight, Steven didn't make her heart leap in her chest like it did when she saw Penn, but she wasn't on a date with Penn. There were too many questions surrounding him, and that was the last thing she needed. On paper, Steven seemed solid. He had a good job. They'd talked on the phone a little bit and there had been no lulls in the conversation.
Steven was an avid reader and he'd been intrigued by Brooke's job.
