Kent hooked Penn up with less obvious bodyguards for Brooke. Now he thought he could keep her safe.
“She'll never know she's being followed. I can guarantee it," Kent said.
They sat in a coffee shop in between the breakfast and lunch rushes. Penn had stepped out of the office for a moment but didn't let his assistant know where he was. He'd have to explain far too much if he did.
He still had his cell phone on, so Marsha could get in touch with him if an emergency arose. He'd mentioned he'd want to tour all of his facilities, but he hadn't made any plans yet. He had a mountain of work, but Brooke was on his mind. She was his priority because no matter what his bank account looked like or what his paycheck said, he was still a cop. He might always be.
