When the horse achieved an even trot Wolf called out to Shadow. The wolf came running in from the shaded area where he had rested unnoticed. Shadow ran into the circle that Pinto Bean trotted and followed the horse just to the inside of its hindquarters. When Wolf gave Shadow the command, the animal jumped onto the back of the horse, landing squarely on top of the blanket. The wolf quickly gained his balance and stood, riding nose to the wind, as if he had always done it.
The applause was immediate, even the knights stood to clap. After about ten laps around, Wolf stopped the horse and Shadow jumped down and came over expecting a head rub. The applause continued as Wolf walked off the lists, leading the horse with Shadow at his side.
He had a big grin and as he passed Red, he challenged her,……
