I quickly jumped off the branch I was sitting on and just as I landed on the ground beside Ink another bullet hit the exact spot I was occupying just a second ago. It was a trap! They were expecting us. f**k!
I crawled to Ink, staying low hiding behind forest vegetation, hoping that it would keep me safe from the sniper's eye. Ink was lying on his side with eyes closed and clipped breath. I didn't even have to check his pulse to know things were bad. Very bad. And the time was ticking at our disadvantage.
"Ink, stay with me, OK?" - He groaned incomprehensible words in response - "Listen, I need you to get on my back, and once I shift grab my fur and don't let go, OK?" - I received another wordless grunt that I took as agreement.
I couldn't lose another second, so I put his arm around my back ……
