Elise rode in the back of the carriage, which trundled along at an easy pace. Astredian was up front doing the driving, and though they were separated she could hear him muttering to himself. He was excited, and had a habit of mumbling to himself when no one else was nearby to bounce his thoughts off of.
The troubadour relaxed into the comfortable leather seats, propping her feet up on the seat in front of her. The ride was slow going as they had to contend with the city’s narrow roads, crowds, and the traffic of other carts and carriages. Soon, Ellie dozed off, hat pulled down over her face to shield her eyes from the bright sun that was coming in from the carriage’s windows.
