I couldn't believe it.
The Headmistress's words hung in the air like a bad chord at a goth music rehearsal. "What do you mean it's not there, Headmistress?" My voice wavered with disbelief as I tried to wrap my head around her response. Confusion gnawed at my insides, and I shot her a puzzled look.
Headmistress Mooncrest looked troubled, and I could see it all over her face. She appeared wary, maybe even a little exasperated. With a drawn-out sigh, she finally spoke, "I am sorry, Stella." Her voice carried the weight of something I couldn't quite grasp. She shook her head slowly, and the room seemed to close in on me, the stark whiteness of the infirmary suffocating.
"But there should at least be something... Anything," I protested, my disbelief turnin……
