I must have dozed off, because I woke up at the sound of someone knocking on my bedroom door. I lay in the darkness listening, just in case I had dreamt the entire thing. Then it happened again. I sat up, suddenly regretting my earlier decision to lock the door, because shouting ‘come in’ would have been so much easier.
When I finally reached the door, which took longer than expected due to my legs still wanting to stay asleep, I tried to fix my tousled hair a bit and push it off my face. I was still in the uniform from earlier, wishing now I had changed before sleeping. Too late.
I unlocked the door and pulled it open a tiny fraction to look round it. To my surprise, the duke was standing there. Since waking up next to him and leaving his chambers, he had made no move to approac……
