I stood staring at Freddie, like he was a mirage that might disappear at any moment. Was he truly here?
“Celeste, you don’t know how happy I am to see you. I thought I'd never see you again.” Freddie’s eyes had filled up. I immediately felt my own do the same.
“Oh Freddie.” I ran into his arms, the tears flowing freely down my face as I pressed my face into his chest. “I wanted to say goodbye to you, they wouldn’t let me. I am so glad you are here.” I gripped him tighter.
His arms tightened round me too as he breathed into my hair. “I felt like someone had ripped the air out of my lungs when I saw you drive away in that car, Celeste. I wanted to die at that moment.”
