We were sitting on the beach I had brought Cassie to the day before. My back was propped up against a rock and Cassie was cradled on my lap with her head leaning against my chest. My heartbeat and scent bringing her a sense of calm. There was no talking, we both just sat in comfortable silence. My right hand was stroking her arm and my left hand was stroking her hair. Touching her was not only soothing her, but me and my dragon too.
After the incident in the infirmary, Laurel calling Cassie a witch. I knew I had to get her out of the castle and give her time to process everything that had happened.
