However, it does not reveal her future husband. Instead, it shows dead young human women floating over the surface of the water. Pale, with open, slightly bulging eyes. One of them has her face. Frightened but intrigued, Fiorentina takes on her human form to investigate her true identity on land. A ball is going on at the palace by the shore. A drunken prince beckons her to the party, trying to make her stay. She cannot. Sleeping on land means death for mermaids, and half-drunk herself, she is close to shutting her eyes forever. The younger prince Alexander saves her from his brother's clutches but sees her transform into a mermaid right before she plunges into the sea. The initial attraction becomes fury, as the sighting reminds him of his mother’s death by drowning. “The mermaids were at fault,” they say, and the prince believes them. So, a cat and mouse game begins as Fiorentina continues to search for answers and Alexander – for revenge. However, both cannot deny that something else pulls them towards each other as their interactions become frequent, something more dangerous – like love.

Prince Samuel is set to take over Shadowcreek, but he still battles with insecurities. At twenty-five, he still does not have magical powers - unlike most of his family members. The prince also carries the brunt of Erishkigal's curse, as he transforms into a wolf during full moons or moments of great anger. Without a pack, he becomes involved with various shifters hunting through the Forests. Some may be deadlier than they first let on. As the new Shadow King, Samuel also has to deal with further rebellions and an intense hatred for shifters. Even the People of Nowhere start being banished from the forests as new human kings attempt to take over Shadowcreek and the Forests of Mogochislenia. His mother may rule the Above and Beyond, but even she cannot protect him from the new unease that has been spreading across the continent. An encounter with a beautiful shifter makes him wonder if his current state is not as harsh a punishment as he initially believes. He wants me at Shadowcreek. It has to do with wolves. Therefore, a wolf must be sent there to do something about it,” the prince gave the shifter maiden a crooked grin to make it clear he was half-jesting. Melinoe did not smile. She was thinking hard about something, Samuel could tell. “What is it?” “Nothing. The hounds and some rebel wolves seem to be getting out of hand.” “Are you afraid of them?” “No, I am not afraid of them,” she said indignantly. “Come with me, Melinoe.” Samuel did not know where that came from, but he felt the urgency to tell her those words. “My mother needs me.” The prince was surprised that she did not laugh or protest. It almost seemed that she would come with him if not for her mother. “Is your mother old and ill?” he asked, concerned. She scoffed at that. Then, she held her mouth with a hand as if it had already given too much away. “No, she is not. But she controls me and everything that I had to do.” “Is that why you are still not married?” “At my age? A spinster?” Melinoe was now openly laughing. There were tears in her eyes, from mirth or something else; the prince was not sure. “Melinoe, you do not look like a spinster at all,” the prince said, closing the gap between them. He did not know why he was bold enough to hold her on both shoulders, but that was what he did. She looked up into his eyes, wondering what was going on. She did not protest when his lips descended on hers for a kiss.

Their connection goes beyond time and space and they have to fight mortal and supernatural forces to be together. Excerpt: When my eyes opened, I was in the courtyard. I saw a shimmering in the distance, close to the maze. They looked like heat waves creating a large wall. The waves were a mix of orange, yellow, and blue flame, looking like the sun had started rising in the middle of the courtyard. It was my eighteenth birthday, I knew it then, but it did not make sense. Why was I here? Then, as the shimmering became more transparent, I saw a face that was both familiar and strange. Daniel. He was wearing a black robe, a rosary around his neck. He looked like he was in quiet meditation, the small black bible in his hand open to a page. His mouth was moving, but I could not hear his voice. Suddenly, I saw that he felt my presence. His eyes looked up to me, looking like a cross between startled and pleased. It was the same face I was so close to only a few minutes ago, but it was also obviously a lot younger. He was coming closer. I could feel that he meant to pass through the waves. I was not usually speechless, but I did not say anything. Then, he was there by the shimmering, his mouth was moving, but I could not hear him. After a while, I started hearing his voice. “Good morning. Are you here to visit someone?” I laughed. What was he talking about? I was at home. “This is my home. I live here.” I could see Daniel looking at me, my clothes, and the castle at the back. He looked bewildered, but he blinked his eyes several times. He looked like he was in disbelief. Then, he looked at the opened page right in front of him and started muttering some words. He was praying. What did he think I was? A demoness? What would a young monk think when he saw a young woman across what seemed like cold flames? I went closer to the shimmering wall and touched it. It was suddenly gone.

Bagaikan di sambar petir, ternyata aku hamil. Ibu murka, dia langsung mengajak pulang. Turun dari angkot di ujung gang Ibu langsung menyeret tubuhku seperti sekarung beras. Pakaianku penuh tanah, kotor dan basah , terdapat luka lecet di beberapa bagian karena ibu menyeretku di jalanan setapak yang banyak lubang. Hujan baru reda dari dari atas sana. Aku hanya bisa menangis memohon pengampunan. Tetangga kanan kiri yang melihat langsung berkerumun karena penasaran. "Buk, ampun Buk!" Aku terus memohon, memegang kedua kaki ibu erat. Tangisku tak terbendung lagi, aku bingung bagaimana menjelaskan ini semua padanya. Sampai di depan rumah, Ibu melepaskanku. Tertatih aku mencoba berdiri, menahan perihnya hati dan tubuh ini. Ibu yang biasanya sangat penyayang, kini seperti monster yang menyeramkan. "Aku sampai menjadi tukang cuci dari rumah ke rumah untuk membiayaimu sekolah, kini setelah sebesar ini, tega kau lakukan semua ini padaku, Ve?" "Maafkan, Ve, Buk." Aku menangis seraya memegang kedua kakinya. Salah satu tetangga yang melihat mendekat. "Ada masalah apa ini, Leni? "Tanya saja sama anak sialan ini. Bikin malu!"

Éthan, dont vous allez lire l’une des aventures, agite ses pensées pendant presque 20 ans sans que cela soit vraiment un projet d’écriture. Et puis, pour faire plaisir à ses enfants, il décide de coucher sur le papier tout ce qu’il imagine depuis tant d’années.
