Despite the initial joy that Helina had seen in Chase that morning, at the end of the day he was a different person. She was packing up for their trip home when he entered the office, his tie askew and his eyes glazed.
“Chase?"
“They're gone."
“Well, the day is over. Did you expect them to stay the night?" she asked, realizing afterward that maybe sarcasm wasn't needed in this situation.
She'd found that she could say anything to Chase, except for the truth about what she was. Other than that, she could say what she wanted to him, and she'd found it refreshing. Spending time with Kurt meant she had to cater to his ego. Chase wasn't that way at all.
He let out a little chuckle then flopped into the other chair in her part of the office. She'd never seen him this devoid of energy. Was he sick? Hu……
