"I want a divorce, Samuel Daves," I told him, my heart turning to ice.
"Divorce? Are you out of your mind!?"
My best friend Hailey got pregnant and abandoned in senior year.
For years, I took care of her and her daughter without pressing for information, not wanting to reopen painful memories.
On New Year's eve, however, I walk in on her and my husband Samuel, screwing in the study.
Hailey had been lying to my face for years while living under my roof, carrying an affair with my husband right under my nose.
That daughter of hers? She is Samuel's.
Now I want a divorce.
But he is refusing to give me one.
Too bad Samuel doesn't have a choice. Because while I might be kind and generous to a fault at times, I'm not a pushover when it matters.

I wake up to sunlight burning through my eyelids.
My head is pounding and my mouth is dry as sand.
I'm on a couch.
Not mine. Not anywhere I recognize.
I sit up too fast. The room spins.
I'm wearing my clothes. Sort of. My bra is hanging on one shoulder. My skirt is twisted. One shoe is missing……
