The night sky over Nyralis was darker than usual, heavy with clouds that swallowed the moon’s light. From the high towers of the ancient city, a chill wind swept through the streets, carrying whispers that no one dared to acknowledge. Shadows moved unnaturally along the cobblestones, twisting and curling as if alive.
In the heart of the city, the Valcrest household sat in eerie silence. The candles flickered in their holders, struggling against a draft that seemed to come from nowhere. Inside, a young boy of twelve, Arion, stared at the empty fireplace, where the warmth of his parents’ presence had once been. The laughter and stories that had filled these walls years ago were gone, replaced by a void of questions and fear.
Suddenly, the room shivered as though the very air had trembled. Arion felt it first: a subtle tug in his chest, a pulse of energy he couldn’t explain. His mother had told him that some magic was dormant, waiting for the right moment, but he had never truly believed it. And yet, the sensation was real—growing stronger by the second, thrumming in his veins like a heartbeat not his own.
Outside, the wind carried a faint whisper. “Arion…” It was so soft that he thought he had imagined it. But the whisper came again, curling around his mind, colder and heavier this time: “The path begins.”
Arion’s heart pounded. He looked around the empty room, expecting his parents to appear, but they were gone. He reached out instinctively, and the flame in the candle flared, brightening unnaturally, casting long shadows that seemed to move with intention.
From the darkness of the city, unseen eyes watched him. A figure cloaked in black stood upon the highest tower, its form blending with the night. It observed silently, waiting, its presence both threatening and strangely familiar.
A chill swept over Arion. “Who’s there?” he whispered, but the night gave no answer. Only the pulse of magic within him responded, a quiet reminder that something ancient had awakened—and that his life, and the fate of Nyralis itself, was about to change forever.
And somewhere in the shadows, a promise and a warning intertwined.
“Arion… the world is watching.”

chapter 6

The forest had grown silent, as though even the wildlife were holding their breath in anticipation. Arion, Lyric, and Selene moved cautiously, the faint light of dawn filtering through the thick canopy, painting the ground in mottled patterns of gold and green. Every step carried the weight of the unknown, and Arion’s pulse thrumme……
