Turns out, there's more waiting for Charles than being let to rot after he lost literally everything in the latter part of his life. Old, crippled, and miserable. One lucid encounter was enough to change it all. One lucid encounter... was enough to turn everything he thought he had lost, into something he never had thought he would obtain.
