My nineteen-year-old sister took a front desk job at a lodge off Route 51.
Three days later, her clock-in portal was deleted, her phone went straight to voice, and the address she sent me traced back to a biker garage owned by Kade Brennan.
Kade "Chaos" Brennan is thirty-two, scarred, an enforcer for the motorcycle club that controls half the transport jobs in western Pennsylvania, and used to people doing what he says.
He takes one look at the silver pendant I inherited from my late mother, and says, "Where did you get that necklace?"
The pendant belonged to his younger brother, Sean, presumed dead in a car fire in 2013. Closed casket, no body ever recovered.
Now my sister's duffel bag is on a bed in Room 6 of that lodge, the same room Sean was logged into two days after he supposedly died.
Kade says if we want to find Mia, we do it together. His rules are simple: I don't go alone, and he doesn't hide what he finds.
But Kade equates protection with control, and I equate independence with survival. Every time he withholds a lead to keep me safe, he makes me less safe, and every time I hide information to stay in control, I prove him right.
The lodge is just the front. Behind it is a network that has been using legitimate job offers to trap young women for fifteen years, protected by loyalty, fear, and a club president who cannot afford to let anyone look too closely at 2013.
My sister is still alive, I know it. Finding her is only the first part. Bringing her home without becoming exactly what Kade is trying to protect me from, that's the hard part.
He wants to claim me. I need him to trust me enough to let me choose.

"We are not going alone. And we are not waiting until morning." Kade says it and he is already pulling his cut back on. The house is still quiet except for the refrigerator hum and my phone is still on the coffee table with the photo of the hand with the pinky ring. The ring is small and silver and I have seen it a hundred times. Mia got it f……
