The Boy Who Borrowed Tomorrow
Chapter 1 – The Clock That Shouldn’t Exist
The rain fell like shattered glass against the streets of Arkon City.
Sixteen-year-old Daniel ran through the narrow alley, his backpack bouncing against his shoulders. He was late again. Late for school. Late for life. Late for everything.
But tonight, something strange waited for him.
At the end of the alley stood a small antique shop Daniel had never seen before, even though he walked this road every day.
The sign above the door flickered:
“Timekeeper.”
Daniel hesitated.
The shop door creaked open by itself.
Inside, the air smelled of dust and metal. Hundreds of clocks ticked at different speeds. Some moved too fast. Some barely moved at all.
Behind the counter sat an old man with silver eyes.
“You’re late,” the man said calmly.
“For what?” Daniel asked.
“For the moment your life changes.”
Daniel laughed nervously. “I think you’ve got the wrong person.”
The old man slid a strange watch across the counter.
The watch had no numbers—only a glowing green line moving in circles.
“This,” the man whispered, “lets you borrow time from tomorrow.”
Daniel blinked. “That’s impossible.”
“Try it.”
Daniel pressed the button.
Suddenly—
The world stopped.
Rain froze in the air. Cars halted mid-motion. Even the clocks stopped ticking.
Daniel’s heart raced.
“What did I just do?”
The old man’s voice echoed through the frozen world.
“You borrowed ten seconds from tomorrow.”
Daniel looked outside.
For the first time in his life…
Time belonged to him.
But the old man’s next words chilled his spine.
“Just remember,” he said softly.
“Tomorrow always wants its time back.”
Chapter 2 – The Price of Ten Seconds
Daniel stared at the frozen world outside the antique shop.
Rain hung motionless in the air like tiny glass beads. A taxi was stuck halfway through a turn. Even a pigeon in the sky was frozen mid-flap.
His heart pounded.
“This… this isn’t real,” Daniel whispered.
Behind him, the old man calmly adjusted his glasses.
“Oh, it’s very real.”
Daniel stepped outside the shop carefully. The street felt silent—too silent. No sound. No wind. Nothing.
He reached out and touched one of the raindrops.
It didn’t fall.
“This is insane,” Daniel muttered.
Then suddenly—
The glowing line on the strange watch started moving faster.
The old man’s voice echoed from the doorway.
“You have three seconds left.”
“What happens when it reaches zero?” Daniel asked nervously.
The old man smiled slightly.
“You’ll see.”
The watch flashed.
0
Suddenly the world exploded back into motion.
Rain crashed to the ground. Cars honked loudly. The pigeon flew away in panic.
Daniel nearly fell over.
“What was that?!” he shouted.
But when he looked back—
The antique shop was gone.
No door.
No clocks.
Just an empty brick wall.
Daniel stared at the watch in his hand.
“Okay… that was weird.”
He started walking home.
But something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
When he reached his house, he noticed something strange.
The front door was broken.
Lights flashed inside.
Police cars were parked outside.
Daniel’s stomach twisted.
He ran forward.
“What happened?” he asked a police officer.
The officer looked confused.
“Kid… where have you been?”
Daniel blinked.
“I just came from school.”
The officer’s face turned pale.
“School ended three hours ago.”
Daniel slowly looked down at the watch.
The glowing line moved quietly around the dial.
Then he remembered the old man’s warning.
Tomorrow always wants its time back.
And suddenly Daniel realized something terrifying.
He hadn’t borrowed ten seconds from tomorrow.
He had borrowed three hours.
And tomorrow was already starting to collect the debt.
Chapter 3 – The Man Who Knows
Daniel stood frozen in front of his house.
Police lights flashed red and blue across the street. Neighbors whispered in small groups. His mind raced as he looked down at the strange watch on his wrist.
Three hours…
“I only pressed it once,” he muttered.
A police officer walked toward him.
“Daniel Cross?”
Daniel nodded slowly.
“Your mother’s looking for you. She thought something happened.”
Daniel ran inside the house.
“Mom!”
His mother rushed toward him and hugged him tightly.
“Daniel! Where were you? I called your phone ten times!”
Daniel hesitated. How could he explain that he had borrowed time?
“I… lost track of time,” he said quietly.
His mother sighed with relief. “Just don’t scare me like that again.”
But Daniel couldn’t relax.
He kept staring at the glowing watch.
Later That Night
Daniel sat on the roof of his building, the city lights stretching endlessly in front of him.
He turned the watch slowly in his hands.
“What are you?” he whispered.
Suddenly—
A voice behind him said calmly,
“A mistake.”
Daniel spun around.
A tall man stood in the shadows. He wore a long dark coat and glasses that reflected the moonlight.
Daniel’s heart pounded.
“Who are you?”
The man stepped forward slowly.
“I’m someone who has been looking for that watch… for a very long time.”
