Cara had forgotten all about Jason Grey, her brother’s best friend when she graduated and didn't think anything could happen between them. But suddenly, Jason approached her with a job helping him with a daughter she didn’t know he had until that moment, as she does her residency.
He was a doctor himself and the assistant medical director so he was busy, and an offer of staying in his house to help look after his daughter, she realized that she still wanted him, but Jason continue to keep her at arm length, because she was “off limit” After she agreed to his offer, she wondered how long it would be for him before he gave in to the primal need and attraction that was obviously between them. When Jason suddenly received a request from his best friend to help keep his sister close because of the dangerous case he was working on, Jason knew the only way he could survive that was offering her a job under him, because he never shits where he ate, but when all he could think of was Cara, he wondered if it would be all that bad to give in to this forbidden spark between them.

My heart pounded so hard I could feel it in my throat. Every step I took toward Jason’s office felt heavier, weighted with the sheer magnitude of what I was about to tell him. My fingers tightened around the piece of paper in my pocket… the confirmation from the hospital lab that I had read at least a dozen times.<……
