MONIFE
Monife is a young woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes a mother at a young age. What should have been the beginning of her dreams becomes a period of confusion, shame, and uncertainty as she struggles to accept the reality of her new life. With her son, Ayomide, now depending on her, Monife is forced to grow up quickly. She watches as life continues around her while she feels stuck between the girl she used to be and the woman she is expected to become. Motherhood becomes both her greatest responsibility and a constant reminder of the choices that changed her life. For a while, Monife believes her dreams are over. But with the support of those who refuse to let her give up, she makes a difficult decision: she returns to school to pursue nursing.Starting over is not easy. Monife has to balance lectures, practicals, clinical postings, studying, and caring for her young son. There are days when exhaustion makes her question whether she made the right decision. There are moments when the judgment of others makes her feel like she does not belong. And there are times when her past threatens to convince her that she can never become more than the mistakes she has made.Yet, Monife keeps going. As she progresses through her training, she discovers that the very experiences she once considered her greatest weakness have given her a deep understanding of pain, fear, vulnerability, and compassion. Her journey begins to shape not only the nurse she wants to become, but the woman she is becoming. With every challenge she overcomes, Monife learns that motherhood does not have to be the end of her story, and her past does not have to dictate her future. Her journey is one of resilience, motherhood, healing, second chances, and self-discovery.Monife is not a story about a girl whose life went according to plan.It is the story of a woman who learned to rebuild her life when the plan fell apart. And in the process, she discovers that sometimes, becoming who you were meant to be begins with learning to believe that you still can.

MONIFE

Chapter FIVE

The card stayed on the table for three days.

Neither Grace nor I touched it.

But we both looked at it. A lot.

It lay there like a loaded question, daring us to answer. The name printed in gold letters felt like a door, one we weren’t sure we were ready to walk through.
