Kira's POV
The searing pain in my shoulder woke me before my eyes even opened. Claire's fingers worked carefully around the bandage, but every touch felt like fire.
"Sorry," she mumbled, concentrating on the wound. "Almost done."
I bit my lip hard enough to taste blood. "Just get it over with."
Through the cabin window, I could see Damon pacing the tree line, his broad shoulders tense as he scanned for threats. Even from here, I could tell he was in full protection mode. Part wolf, part man, all business.
"You need more painkillers," Claire said, taping down the fresh bandage.
I shook my head. "Can't think straight on that stuff."
"That's kind of the point."
"I need my brain working," I insisted. "Scott's coming for us, and I can't be high as a kite when he does."
Claire sighed, packing up the firs……
