Devins POV
The snow was hitting my face and making me lower my eyelids as I ran the fastest I could along the street. I was in the middle of the city so changing was out of the question. Even though I really could have used the extra legs. I was chasing a particularly devious fairy. And as humans could not see fairies unless they wanted to be seen, the little mischief-maker could fly and leave magic traps to block his path.
The fairy turned into an ally and I quickly followed. Magic reeked in the air. What nuisance has the creature caused now? I stopped and looked around me. I don't want to go forwards in case the magic somehow would prevent me from continuing this hunt. We already had too many pack members caught in various traps along the way. On one side of the ally there was an old fireescape. I jumped and grabbed the cold metal. Then I climbed all the way to the top of the building. Climbing is slower than flying, so the naughty soon-to-be shoved into a glass bottle fairy had gained distance from me. However, he was using a lot of magic and was not going to be able to keep this pace up for long.
I started running along the rooftops. Unfortunately, it was early December and nighttime. Therefore, the rooftops were covered in a thin layer of snow and ice. I had to be very careful in order not to slip. The fairy was heading towards a residential area. Obviously aiming for the forest on the other side. I jumped from rooftop to rooftop. Up here there are no spells so I am quickly gaining on him.
I saw him 2 houses away. I jumped to the nearest house. A cosy cottage house with smoke coming up the chimney. Fortunately, the heat from this has melted the snow and ice and I use this advantage to move a little faster. And then I feel it. The smell of magic. It is different to the magic I smelled in the ally. This is sweeter. Like cookies and hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows.
It also seems to be moving, unlike the spells caused by the fairy. Moving spells are much harder and require a much stronger practitioner. A witch?
I barely have time to think the thought before the magic touches me and I start slipping, hitting the chimney and falling head first into it. I have never been so clumsy in my life. Oddly enough, the fire in the fireplace under the chimney seems to have died at the exact moment I feel in the chimney .My hands are in front of my face and I brace for impact. The cottage was a two-story house, so I felt a considerable amount of pain upon landing. Ow. I also landed on hot coals so I quickly moved away from the fireplace into the living room.
"You know you are like 15 days early, right? Although I am curious if I made the naughty or good list this year?" A female voice said from a chair in the corner of the room.
"Ho, ho, ho," I respond without entusiasm. I pretend to be unamused although I can't help but to crack a small smile. My expression completely changes when I see her. She may be the cutest thing I had ever seen. Her hair is full of different colors. From blond, to brown to tawny and burgondie. Her eyes ar lilac. Her mouth, currently in a small pout, is beautifully shaped and really looks like any minute this girl is not kissing someone, it is a small crime of nature. She is wearing a long woolen sweater with little deer on it and black tights. Her legs seemed to stretch for miles. I could much to easily picture myself moving my hands along them.
Suddenly, I realized I had just fallen into this woman's house, got sot all over myself and my clothes and am currently standing on her carpet making that black too.
"Em, sorry about the rug. I will pay for the drycleaning bill. You would not happen to have clothes left by an ex who just happened to be my size?"
"No, but I have a washer and dryer. Not to mention a shower that gets hot water." I have no idea why her words turned me on, but suddenly I'm once again completely unfocused and moving towards her. I was going to feel this woman's legs wrapped around me. That is when her scent hits me. Cookies, marshmallows and hot chocolate. Magic. She is a witch. And suddenly Wisdom, my wolf, speaks up.
"Mate." Unfortunately, I said those words out loud.
