Jen paced while Sean lounged on an overstuffed chair outside Bill Howe's office. The secretary had disappeared mere minutes ago, but the time seemed to have slowed. The artificial music filling her ears made her dizzy.
Her heart beat in her head. She hadn't seen Bill since leaving college. The events of that evening changed the course of her life and Ken's, too. But had she forgiven the man? Was it partly her fault for rising to the challenge of that drinking game? She shrugged off her doubts like a shawl she no longer needed.
“You okay?" Sean asked, his gaze boring into her.
She swallowed and sat in the chair next to him “Fine." Picking up a magazine, she leafed through, seeing none of the articles inside the publication.
“You like football?"
“Huh? Uh, no, why?" Odd question.
His eyes twinkled.……
