Cara
“Child, hurry up with those biscuits!” Mauve, the head cook, said to Cara.
“Sorry, you taught me that I can’t overwork the dough, or the biscuits will be tough,” I explained to Mauve.
“Child, going slow isn’t overworking the dough; it’s just going slow. You want to mix the dough until it just comes together. If you mix any longer, you’ll have overworked that dough,” Mauve sighed as she explained this to me.
“I’m sorry for being slow with the biscuits, Ms. Mauve; I just wanted them to be good,” I said.
“Baby girl, you are a wonderful baker. Trust me, if I didn’t think you made good biscuits, I would never let you make them. Now hurry up and get that batch to the oven. Alpha will be down for breakfast soon, and he doesn’t like to be kept waiting,” Mauve stated.
As the biscuits baked, Mauve, I, and the rest of the kitchen omegas started plating all the breakfast dishes for the buffet.
“Okay, everyone, let’s start putting these on the buffet. I am going down to the pantry to do inventory for the market,” Mauve told the omegas.
Everyone grabbed a plate and took it out to the buffet. I grabbed the plate of scrambled eggs, and just as I was walking through the door to the dining hall, Vivian came rushing back into the kitchen.
“Crash!”
Scrambled eggs were everywhere.
“Oh my god! We are dead! We are so dead!” Vivian started panicking.
“Calm down, okay? We can fix this. How many eggs do we have?” I asked Jenna, another omega helping in the kitchen.
“About 25, not enough for scrambled eggs for the pack,” Jenna said.
“We are so dead!” Vivian mumbled.
“Calm down, we are not dead. Get me cheese, onions, peppers—just get me everything from the fridge,” I ordered.
I grabbed a huge mixing bowl and started breaking the eggs into it. I added a little cream, spices, chopped onions, peppers, garlic, cheese, and tomatoes to the egg mixture. Then I quickly started frying up this egg mixture.
“What is that?” Vivian asked as she watched me cook.
“We don’t have enough eggs, but we can stretch the eggs by adding more ingredients. So if anyone asks, just tell them it’s gourmet scrambled eggs,” I explained.
By the time the eggs were cooked, it looked like there was enough for the pack. I just prayed they tasted good as I took the plate of gourmet scrambled eggs out to the buffet.
Soon, the dining hall was busy, and everyone looked like they were enjoying breakfast. Mauve came back up to the kitchen, and Jenna told her about the egg mishap.
“So I have to add more eggs to the shopping list, I assume?” Mauve questioned.
Vivian, Jenna, and I nodded our heads. “So has anyone said anything about these gourmet scrambled eggs yet?” Mauve asked.
The door opened, and one of the warriors appeared before them.
“Ms. Mauve, Alpha is asking for you,” he exclaimed.
“Oh no, it’s the eggs; I knew it!” Vivian said.
“Relax, it’s time for the grocery order. He may have a special request,” Mauve said as she walked out the door.
Mauve walked over to the table and bowed to the Alpha and Luna.
“Alpha, you wished to see me?” she asked.
“Yes, Mauve. The Luna and I wanted to give you my compliments on this egg dish. These are the best eggs we’ve had,” he said to Mauve.
“Yes, I love that you added vegetables to the scrambled eggs and then added the cheese. They are like an omelet but scrambled; I loved them,” the Luna said, smiling.
“Thank you, Alpha and Luna, but I cannot take this compliment. One of my omegas actually made the dish,” she told them.
“Well, it seems we have a future chef among the kitchen omegas. Please send them my thanks,” he told her.
“I will, thank you.” Mauve bowed her head and turned to leave for the kitchen.
“You can relax, girls. Cara, the Alpha and Luna loved your eggs,” she told us.
“Do they know I made them?” I asked Mauve.
“No, child, they do not know it was you. I just said it was an omega. Trust me, I know better than to tell them it was you,” Mauve patted me on the head and then said, “Okay, finish cleaning up; you three have school.”
We finished cleaning and quickly went off to school. Mauve shook her head at the sight of us leaving. Jenna and Vivian were assigned kitchen duty for two months as part of a punishment. Only I was a permanent help.
Mauve knew if Luna found out it was really I who made the eggs, there would be drama. Luna was strange when it came to me. It could be perfect, and if the Luna knew I was the one who did it, she would make a weird remark indicating it wasn’t up to standards. It was almost like Luna was jealous of me for some strange reason.

Jace
After I got back from training, I took a shower and got dressed before heading down to breakfast. I looked over at my dirty clothes and saw my game shirt was still there, not cleaned.
I groaned; I needed that today for the game. When I got to school, I would just get that omega servant girl to wash and clean it.
I got down to the dining area and helped myself to a large helping of bacon, which is my favorite, and saw we had a new egg dish. I tried it. It’s just eggs, I figured.
I got to the table where my mother and father were and could hear my mom going on about these eggs.
“Oh, Mauve really has outdone herself. These eggs are divine!” my mom said.
“It’s just eggs, Mom. What makes them so divine?” I asked her.
“Jace, honey, just try them; you will see what I am talking about,” she said.
So I took a bite, and she was right—these are good. I nodded my head in approval as I took another bite.
“See! I told you! Whatever got into Mauve with these eggs, I hope it continues!” my mom said.
My best friend and future Beta, Bryan, came and sat next to me.
“You ready for the game today?” he asked me.
“Which game is today?” my dad asked me.
“Soccer; we’re going into playoffs,” I told him.
“That’s great! Make sure you bring a championship to your school; don’t let them down,” he said to me.
I know my dad. What he is really saying is don’t let him down; I have to win.
