The following weekend, Alex and Carlos arrived at the park for the tryouts. They were both nervous, but excited to see what playing on a team would be like.
As they approached the soccer field, they saw a group of boys and girls already there, stretching and warming up. Miguel was among them, and he waved to Alex and Carlos when he saw them.
"Hey guys! Glad you could make it," he said.
"Thanks for inviting us," Alex replied. "We're excited to see what it's like."
Miguel led them over to a group of coaches who were standing on the sideline, watching the players warm up.
"Hey, coaches," Miguel said. "These are my friends, Alex and Carlos. They're interested in joining the team."
The coaches introduced themselves and welcomed Alex and Carlos. They explained that the tryouts would consist of a series of drills and scrimmages, and that they would be evaluating the players based on their skills and teamwork.
The tryouts began, and Alex and Carlos did their best to keep up with the other players. They weren't the most experienced players on the field, but they tried hard and showed good teamwork.
After the tryouts were over, the coaches called the players over to announce their decisions.
"Alright, everyone," the head coach said. "We've made our decisions, and we're excited to announce our new team members."
Alex and Carlos looked at each other nervously, wondering if they had made the cut.
"First, we want to thank everyone for coming out today. We saw a lot of talent and potential out there, and we're excited to see how this team will come together."
The coaches continued to speak, but Alex and Carlos were only half-listening. They were too nervous to focus on anything else.
"And finally, we want to welcome our new team members," the head coach said. "Alex and Carlos, congratulations! You've made the team!"
Alex and Carlos couldn't believe it. They looked at each other in disbelief, grinning from ear to ear.
"We made it!" Alex said.
"I can't believe it," Carlos replied.
Miguel came over and high-fived them both.
"Told you guys you'd be a great addition to the team," he said.
Alex and Carlos couldn't wait to get started. They were thrilled to be a part of a team and to have the opportunity to play soccer at a more competitive level. They knew it would be a big commitment, but they were ready for the challenge.
