I am almost home when I feel a tightening around my neck. Carnelia. Something is wrong. The castle is in sight. I pump my wings harder, pushing against the wind coming strongly from the south, knocking me sideways. I ignore the discomfort in my shoulders, burning through the pain as I focus on closing the distance. As I come up and around the side of the castle to make my final descent, I see something that makes my heart stop. “Carnelia!” I s****m, forgetting that my mouth is not currently formed to make noises that humans can understand. Our eyes meet. She screams.
