Chapter 1

Dark Mate 1015 words 2023-09-18 18:59:00

Father and Mother had been waiting, expectations rising for this very night. Every year, this is the most awaited festival. Even dark wolves await this day, no matter the sad nature of the werewolf, we all appreciate this day, good and bad alike.

The night of the full moon has always been a thing of joy for werewolves, far and near. Every wolf, big, small, and all types and sizes comes together to celebrate this special day. It is when the deaf hear, the blind see, the barren becomes pregnant, and nothing ever goes wrong on the night of the full moon except, of course, with Alpha Raziel. Known to be the king of darkness, he sits idly on his own, sipping his wine as slowly as a turtle. My mother and father have to ensure everyone is happy. With my silver dress dropping shimmers, I casually stroll to him, my aim and intention: to brighten up the atmosphere. I sit close to him pondering over the conversation until he turns to look at me. I instantly get drowned in his eyes, anyone would drown in his eyes, to be honest. It feels like a dream when he kisses me, I don't know how, but somehow we get to a spare room, we undress and he fills me. He isn't my first man, but we can't seem to have enough of each other. This moment is more satisfying than any moment.

It's been weeks since the full moon ceremony and I can't get my mind off Raziel, every time I get myself unawares thinking about him.

I woke up today feeling drowsier than I've ever felt before. I was extremely clumsy and my mother decided to take me to the hospital.

"Casandra, you have to listen to your father. The whole pack looks up to you and you can't raise a dark cub without guidance from any member of the black wolf pack and that thing in your stomach carries the strongest of their blood". My mother said gently, moving around the kitchen. "A royal dark cub, no matter how much we love you, we cannot help you raise them. We know nothing about them". Her eyebrows furrowed in frustration as she veered around to look at me, her hands settling on her waist as she leaned on the kitchen counter, the torment visible in her eyes.

"No Mother, I never saw myself as a dark Luna and I will not let it happen, not on my watch," I argued back, massaging my temples, diluting the headache this conversation has caused me today.

"Casandra has always been this way. Stubborn and strong-headed, if she had applied this side of her on the night of the full moon ceremony, then Raziel would never have had his way with her, never". My father said hotly, angrily slamming his cup on the kitchen counter, causing Mother to jump in fright, sending him a death glare as she turned to me, her voice stronger than before., "The deed has been done and we can only face the consequences of her actions from now henceforth. I hate to be harsh on my darling daughter but I have to".

"Casandra! You will do as I say and not as you please! You. Will. Marry. Raziel. Do you understand me? You should have thought of this before mating with the chief of our rival pack and if you ever paid attention in politics class, you should have known every one of them. You have no one to blame and hold responsible for this stupid mistake except yourself and your carelessness". Father boomed, angrily walking out,

"The mating ceremony will be held tomorrow and, for the love of our moon goddess and our people, keep your stubbornness in check. Raziel is not one to be reckoned with. As you've heard and now know, he will not bat his eyelids before separating your head from your neck if you displease him most slightly." "Behave." Mother said, her voice echoing the gravity of the situation.

I can't believe Father would let this happen. None in our history has this thing ever happened. The female alpha of the silver moon pack mated to the male alpha of the dark moon. It has always been this way, the people, the community, the council first, never me. Never know what is bothering you. I do one thing, just one thing for myself, and I'm forced to sacrifice my life for a bunch of people that do not give a f**k about my ass. I could die for all they cared. I complained bitterly inside my head, my shoulders sagging down with frustration. Sometimes I can't help but envy the commoners. At least they had their lives to live. They could live for themselves. While I, the sacrifice died for them.

The palace seems too suffocating for me and I can't breathe. I need to take a breather and I don't need any guards around me. The only way I can dodge the guards is through the secret chambers. It has been my favorite ever since I started craving a need for my personal breathing space.

Thanks to the stupid marriage ceremony, everyone was busy, even the personal guards who were supposed to guide me. The hallway is empty and doesn't pose a threat to me. I easily sneaked into my father's chambers, though this time with more caution. Father's chamber is empty just as I expected. Sneaking out of the palace has never been easier. The door to the secret chamber is locked, but that is not a problem for me. I unlock the door and get in, the door to the outside world, and my freedom is just there. A big smile emerged on my face. Finally, freedom at last. The rays of sunshine drop on me, making me rejuvenated. My next stop is my best friend's house, Amelia. She is the only one that has always been by me. I never need to explain myself to Amelia, she knows what to say and what to do.
